At the core of the USS Veritas are Bridge Officers, Department Chiefs, and specialized roles which collectively serve as the foundation, overseeing every aspect of ship activities to guarantee smooth operations. The Command Staff plays a pivotal role in charting the ship’s course, with the Captain and XO steering daily operations, the Chief Science Officer nurturing curiosity, the Chief of Operations ensuring compliance, and the Intelligence/Comms Officer keeping the Captain and crew up to date on current information.

Together, they embody and epitomize the essence of Star Trek, fostering a sense of camaraderie and unity among our diverse crew. Whether navigating the vast cosmos or ensuring the ship’s safety, every role holds significance in our shared voyage aboard the USS Veritas. Section 03:01 – Veritas Staff

Bridge Officers

The Bridge Officers play a crucial role on the USS Veritas. They are stationed on the bridge, overseeing and coordinating all ship activities. These officers monitor various tasks happening throughout the ship, ensuring smooth operations. The Bridge Officers are key players in maintaining order and communication, making them integral to the overall functioning of the starship.

Department Chiefs

The Department Chiefs on the USS Veritas are vital members of the Command Staff, under the leadership of the Captain. The Department Chiefs take charge of various tasks, including overseeing projects, recommending promotions and awards, hosting events, and planning away missions. Their role is essential in crew management, fostering teamwork, and achieving the ship’s objectives within their departments.

Becoming A Command Staff

Joining the Command Staff or becoming a Department Chief on the USS Veritas is a straightforward process. To start with, there must be an available position within a department on the ship or a proposal to create a new department.

The next steps involve completing the Officer Training School (OTS) course, followed by the Officer Command Course (OCC). It’s also advisable for officers to take the STARFLEET Data Protection Policy (SFDPP) courses and the corresponding Bridge Officer Certification Programming for their department. Section 03:20 USS Veritas Command Staff

Section 03:20.1 – Commanding Officer (CO)

The Commanding Officer (referred to as Captain or CO) oversees the daily operations of the USS Veritas. Serving as the principal spokesperson, they are responsible for maintaining order, upholding the chapter’s functionality, and ensuring adherence to STARFLEET International policies and directives. The Commanding Officer (CO) interprets and ensures compliance with both STARFLEET International and diplomatic guidelines. The primary responsibility of overseeing Monthly Reports (MSR) falls under their purview, and the Commanding Officer (CO) is answerable to STARFLEET International for the overall performance of the chapter.

In embodying the principles of Star Trek, the Commanding Officer (CO) cultivates an environment characterized by optimism, openness, and a sense of belonging. The mission of the USS Veritas is to serve respective communities through charitable work and to cultivate an environment of goodwill and camaraderie.

Section 03:20.2 – Executive Officer (XO)

The Executive Officer (referred to as XO or First Officer) serves as the Commanding Officer’s right-hand on the USS Veritas.  Entrusted with executing directives and assuming the same responsibilities as the Commanding Officer in their absence, the Executive Officer (XO) manages records pertinent to the chapter, ensuring a comprehensive archive of the ship’s activities. Beyond administrative duties, the Executive Officer (XO) actively engages with the crew, particularly new members and Department Chiefs, fostering a collaborative environment within the ship that reflects the principles of unity and camaraderie inherent in Star Trek.

In addition to their mentoring role, the Executive Officer (XO) carries the responsibility of overseeing internal investigations. Demonstrating a commitment to impartiality and diligence, the Executive Officer (XO) navigates challenges within the ship, contributing to both operational efficiency and the communal spirit that characterizes the USS Veritas.

Section 03:20.3 – Second Officer and Helms

The Second Officer on the USS Veritas holds the third-highest rank on the starship and is designated to assume command in the absence of both the Commanding Officer (CO) and Executive Officer (XO). In the event that the current Executive Officer (CO) becomes the Acting Captain, the Second Officer can step into the role of First Officer.

The primary responsibilities of the Second Officer on the USS Veritas encompass ship navigation and maintenance. Functioning as the Chief Helm Officer, they are responsible for steering the ship and ensuring its smooth operation, particularly during emergency situations (with a stipulation against performing barrel rolls).

Section 03:20.4 – Chief of Communications

The Chief of Communications plays a crucial role in maintaining seamless communication within our crew and STARFLEET International Auxiliaries. Tasked with the sharing of information to crew-mates, they report directly to the captain.

In addition to these responsibilities, this role oversees the Chapter’s Newsletter team, taking the lead in its production and distribution. The creative flair applied to newsletters is essential for keeping the crew well-informed and fostering unity among ship members. The commitment to effective communication significantly contributes to the ongoing mission of the USS Veritas.

Section 03:20.5 – Chief of Intelligence

The primary responsibility of the Chief of Intelligence is gathering information on upcoming event and convention opportunities. They will report finding to the Chief of Communications to ensure the crew is made aware of opportunities in the local and regional level.

Section 03:20.6 – Ship’s Yeoman

The ship’s Yeoman functions as the Captain’s personal assistant and is primarily engaged in clerical work and record-keeping. Their responsibilities include carrying tricorders to document the ship’s activities, announcing the Captain’s arrival, and retrieving data and information as needed by the Captain.

Section 03:20.7- Chief Science Officer

The Chief Science Officer’s duties revolve around two main aspects: and nurturing a passion for learning within the crew. They provide materials that enable the crew to explore various scientific disciplines, including exobiology, geoscience, and spatial anomalies. This individual seamlessly collaborates with fellow crew members, integrating scientific knowledge into the daily fabric of our ship operations. Their aim is to spark curiosity and cultivate an interest in science among the crew.

Section 03:20.8- Chief Medical Officer

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) plays a crucial role in ensuring the health and fitness of our crew. Working in collaboration with STARFLEET Medical, they take the lead in initiatives such as the Medical Academy Challenges, promoting well-being and fostering collaboration on the USS Veritas. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) reports to the Assistant Surgeon General in their region.

Under the guidance of the Surgeon General, STARFLEET Medical engages in global collaboration on various medical issues, with a focus on public health, emergency preparedness, wellness and community service. In alignment with Gene Roddenberry’s vision, STARFLEET Medical aspires to noble goals through service, teamwork, and the exchange of medical knowledge.

Section 03:20.9 – Chief of Operations

The Chief of Operations oversees the critical functions of both the chapter and the ship. Taking charge of online development and maintenance, which encompasses responsibilities such as managing the website and social media, they ensure smooth connectivity and information flow within our ship. This role plays a pivotal part in the upkeep of chapter and crew documents, guaranteeing compliance with STARFLEET International standards. Reporting directly to the Commanding Officer (CO) and Executive Officer (XO, they contribute to operational efficiency and ensure adherence to regulations within the ship. Their duties primarily involve maintaining the ship and crew’s compliance with STARFLEET documentation and membership requirements.

Section 03:20.10 – Chief of Engineering

The Chief of Engineering is tasked with maintaining and advancing the technological core of our Sovereign Class Starship. From overseeing the warp core to managing shields, weapons, and shuttles, this individual plays a pivotal role in ensuring the overall functionality of our ship. Engaging in the ship’s narrative development within the Star Trek universe, this role ensures that its technological components align with the rich legacy of the series.

Within STARFLEET International, the Corps of Engineering Department actively advises and produces content, contributing to areas such as costuming, graphic design, 3D printing, and more. Whether crafting backstories for starships or creating intricate 3D models, their skills have a valuable impact on the wider STARFLEET International community. Section 03:20.11 – Chief of Tactical

The primary responsibility of the Chief of Tactical is to uphold order and ensure the security of our ship. This encompasses tasks such as ensuring the secure closure of shuttle bay doors and airlocks, critical for the safety of our crew. Their vigilant oversight extends to away missions, where they navigate potential hazards like inclement weather, charting the safest routes for the team. Collaborating with STARFLEET’s Marines or Special Operations Auxiliary departments, our Security team plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the ship and its crew, thereby enhancing the overall readiness and resilience of the USS Veritas.

Section 03:20.12 – Chief of Security / Weapons

The primary responsibility of the Chief of Security is to uphold order and ensure the safety of our ship. This role ensures that we are in compliance with all local laws and ordinances when attending or hosting activities as well as ensuring compliance with all weapon safety regulations. This role is especially critical when planning or executing marksmanship training or competitions as a crew or away team.

Section 03:20.13 – Cadet Commandant

The Cadet Commandant is primarily responsible for fostering the development of Cadets. In their role as the Cadet Program Liaison, the Cadet Commandant creates Cadet Challenges, sharing them with our Cadets through our Facebook page and Discord channel. Any individual fulfilling this role SHALL have a current background check and some form of Child Safety Youth Protection Training within the last two year.

Section 03:20.14 – Ship Ambassadors

Ambassadors within our Star Trek club serve a pivotal role in promoting collaboration and understanding between our chapter and other organizations. It is essential to outline the expectations and responsibilities that accompany this esteemed position.

Ambassadors, while esteemed representatives, are without voting privileges, emphasizing their impartiality in club matters. They are explicitly prohibited from actively promoting their home club within our chapter, ensuring that our community remains focused on our shared passion for Star Trek, science fiction, fandoms and cosplay.

Respect for the established rules of our club is paramount for ambassadors. Their conduct should align with the principles of inclusivity and respect, fostering a positive atmosphere for all members.

Ambassadors are encouraged to file reports with the Executive Officer (XO), offering valuable insights into ongoing collaborations, challenges, and potential areas for improvement. This transparent communication ensures that our interclub relationships remain dynamic and constructive.

Additionally, ambassadors may be called to share their experiences and provide insightful perspectives related to interclub relations during crew meetings. This enriches our discussions and enhances the overall Star Trek community experience.

All potential ambassadorial candidates will undergo a thorough vetting process by the Captain (CO) and Executive Officer (XO), ensuring that those selected embody the values and ethos of our club. It is important to note that no external organization or club can unilaterally “assign” an ambassador to our chapter, preserving our autonomy and ensuring the selection of ambassadors who align with our community’s vision.
